Broken Hill Aquatic State SC Swimming Championship Results

The three girls that represented the Broken Hill Aquatic Swimming Club in Adelaide at the South Australian short course swimming championships achieved some outstanding results. They returned home last week after the four days of competition to celebrate their achievements with their fellow swimmers and supporters.

Short course swimming events are held in a 25 metre pool which means there are more turns to complete compared to a long course events held in a 50 metre pool. To be competitive in short course events the swimmer needs to be technically solid in all aspects of the event and these girls put on a great display of technically solid swimming.

The youngest swimmer of the three Jade Scott 11 competed in four events at her first state championship achieving personal best times in all events. Jade goes about her training quietly but when she goes to compete she gets revved up. She certainly had the engine running at the championships as she took a combined 10 seconds of her previous best times. Her biggest time break came in the 100 metre freestyle where she took 4.18 seconds off. Competing in the 100m backstroke Jade cut her time by 3.88 seconds. Jade finished inside the top 10 in three of her events, a fantastic effort for her first championships.

Savannah Morris 14 competed in her second short championship and this time around really showed the swimming potential she has. Savannah has been frustrated over the last twelve months with here butterfly as she has been unable to break her personal best times, in both the 50 and 100 metre events. But at this meet here frustration soon turned to joy as she finally broke her times taking 1.19 seconds of the 100m butterfly, qualifying for the open B final and taking .24 seconds off the 50m butterfly and again qualifying for the open B final. Savannah also competed in backstroke and freestyle events and overall she managed to break her times in six of her nine events. Another fantastic result for a girl that really enjoys her swimming.

Sienna Speechley 12 competed as the youngest swimmer in her age group as she celebrated her birthday the day before the championships but that didn’t stop her from giving it to the older swimmers in her age group. Sienna is another swimmer that loves the sport and always gives 110% effort in her training and when she competes. Sienna came away from the championships with what can only be described as “outstanding” results. On day one she competed in the 200m breaststroke taking a huge 9.64 seconds of her previous best time finishing with a silver medal. On day two the great times continued taking 1.42 seconds of her 50m breaststroke placing 4th and 3.13 seconds of her 200IM. Day three, her favourite event the 100m breaststroke. Another outstanding swim dropping her time by a huge 3.77 seconds finishing 4th just 0.21 seconds from a bronze medal. Then came the 50m butterfly and again she broke her time taking 1.16 seconds off. In the evening session she swam in the 400m individual medley which is a very difficult event. Sienna cut a huge 32.74 seconds of her personal best time finishing in 6th place in the 12 and under age group. These results are something to be really proud of, congratulations Sienna.

The girls would like to thank the clubs head coach Steve Moore for his support and advice during the championships and their parents for getting them to the championships.

The club would like to congratulate the girls on their outstanding results and also for their great sportsmanship to their fellow competitors.

Until next time, go Stingrays!
